David Canary, ‘All My Children’ Star, Dead at 77

Actor had also appeared on “One Life to Live”

David Canary, star of soap operas “All My Children” and “One Life to Life,” has died, the Wilton Bulletin reports. He was 77.

According to the paper, the actor died Nov. 16. of natural causes.

Canary, who played Adam Chandler on “All My Children,” had also appeared on “Bonanza,” “Another World” and numerous other television series.

Over his decades-long career, Canary won five Daytime Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actor.

Born in 1938 in Elwood, Indiana, Canary attended the University of Cincinnati on a football scholarship and was offered a chance to play with the Denver Broncos, though he turned down that opportunity to pursue a career as an actor in New York City.

Canary performed in various on- and off-Broadway productions until being drafted into the Army. Upon his discharge, Canary resumed his acting career in Los Angeles.

Canary joined the “All My Children” cast in 1983, departing in April 2010 after deciding to retire.

In Wilton, Connecticut, Canary was known for his volunteer work, performing in a benefit production of “Love Letters” and volunteering with the Friends of Wilton Library.

Canary is survived by his wife Maureen, son Christopher, daughter Kathryn, grandson Donovan and brother John.

A private funeral service for immediate family will be held at Bouton Funeral Home in Georgetown, with a memorial tribute being planned.
