The New York Times, College Humor, Zach Galifianakis, Twitter and the Onion were among the nominees for the 14th Annual Webby Awards, announced Tuesday.
The Times led the awards field with 15 nominations, followed by the BBC (9 nods), College Humor, Next New Networks and the Onion (6 apiece).
This year’s judges for the so-called Oscars of the Internet include Martha Stewart, David Bowie and Arianna Huffington. Fans can vote online for Webby People’s Voice Awards via webby.aol.com.
Hollywood is sprinkled throughout this year’s nominees: “Rage,” a movie starring Jude Law, Eddie Izzard and Judi Dench, received a nomination for best online film and video drama. Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns,” Funny or Die’s “Lindsay Lohan’s eHarmony Profile” and Will Ferrell’s “Protect Insurance Companies PSA,” LStudio’s “Web Therapy II” starring Lisa Kudrow, and “Wainy Days” with Amanda Peet and David Wain all received nominations.
The Atlantic, Economist, HuffPo, CNN, Guardian, NPR and Salon were among the media sites to receive 2010 nods.
The Webby Awards ceremony – with its trademark five-word acceptance speeches (Jimmy Fallon’s last year: “Thank God Conan got promoted”) -- is slated for June 14, part of Internet Week New York.
