Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump continues to lead in North Carolina, according to a new survey conducted by liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling. But it seems The Donald could be facing some competition … from a candidate named Deez Nuts.

The new poll shows Nuts is polling at 9 percent in the Tar Heel state. Nuts, who’s running as an independent, is also tracking at 8 percent in Minnesota and 7 percent in Iowa.

Nuts filed his candidacy with the Federal Election Commission last month. His presidential campaign, “Deez Nuts for President 2016,” is registered in Wallingford, Iowa … population 197.

More than 500 people have filed their 2016 candidacy with the FEC so far. Among the candidates, 80 are Democrats, 127 are Republicans, 135 are independents and 12 are libertarians. Fifteen candidates have not declared a party affiliation. PPP polled 957 voters from Aug. 12-Aug. 16.
