Disney Channel has given the greenlight for “Descendants 2,” the sequel to its hit original movie “Descendants.”

Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson and Mitchell Hope will reprise their roles from the original film, as children of famous fairy tale characters like Maleficent, Jafar, the Evil Queen from Snow White and more.

Filming begins this summer for a 2017 premiere.

Disney Channel’s “A.N.T. Farm” star China Anne McClain is joining the cast of “Descendants 2” as the daughter of “The Little Mermaid” villain Ursula, and progeny of other villains including “Peter Pan’s” Captain Hook and “Beauty and the Beast’s” Gaston will be part of the sequel as well.

“Descendants’” Kenny Ortega will return to direct and executive produce with executive producer on the first movie Wendy Japhet, and original writers Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon will write and executive produce.

There is also a “Descendants” novel “The Isle of the Lost” written by Melissa de la Cruz. She’s also penned a sequel, “Return to the Isle of the Lost,” which is currently out in bookstores as well.
