Dominic Cooper Cast in ‘Stratton’ Role Vacated by Henry Cavill

Cavill left project six weeks ago, before production on the film started

Dominic Cooper will replace Henry Cavill in the action-thriller “Stratton,” for which shooting will begin next week in Italy.

Simon West is directing the movie, based on the first novel of the eponymous eight-book series by Duncan Falconer. The book follows a British naval special forces operative deployed in Kazakhstan, trailing an international terrorist cell through Central Asia and Europe.

Cavill exited the film six weeks ago, before production on the film started.

Cooper has starred in films such as “Mamma Mia!” “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” His TV credits include “Agent Carter,” in which he plays Howard Stark.

The actor has also just wrapped up production on “Warcraft” and “The Lady in the Van,” and recently landed a deal to star in AMC’s “Preacher.”

“Stratton” will also star Gemma Chan (“Humans”), Austin Stowell (“Whiplash”), Tyler Hoechlin (“Teen Wolf”), Tom Felton (“Harry Potter” films), Thomas Kretschmann, Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielson and Jake Fairbrother.

The film will be produced by GFM Films through Stratton Film Productions Ltd.

Cooper is represented by CAA.
