Donald Trump is doubling down on his insistence that the United States should deport undocumented immigrants.
In an interview Sunday with Chuck Todd on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the GOP presidential frontrunner said he would repeal President Obama’s executive orders on immigration and deport all undocumented immigrants if he is elected.
“We’re going to keep the families together, but they have to go,” Trump said.
Todd went on to ask Trump what he do with the immigrants who had no homeland to return to, but Trump stated they can not stay in the U.S.
“We will work with them. They have to go. Chuck, we either have a country, or we don’t have a country,” he said.
Trump sat down with Todd in a previously taped interview on the real estate mogul’s private plane in Des Moines, Iowa. The two also discussed the country’s minimum wage, which Trump said he would keep “pretty much where it is right now,” because raising it would hurt the country’s competitiveness.
The outspoken Republican also took a swipe at his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, saying it would be a “miracle” if she’s able to continue her run for president amid the controversy surrounding her use of a private email server for official business as Secretary of State.
“I think [Clinton] may not be able to run, to be honest, because this whole email thing is a horrible thing,” Trump said.
There were no major fireworks during the sitdown, which was a surprise given that Todd has called Trump a “clown” several times in the past, and Trump frequently refers to Todd as “sleepy eyes.”
In fact, on July 12, Trump tweeted, “Sleep eyes @ChuckTodd is killing Meet The Press. Isn’t he pathetic? Love watching him fail!”
