Journalist Gabe Sherman, who wrote a book about Fox News, Roger Ailes and covered the sexual harassment accusations that engulfed news network, is now set to write the screenplay for an upcoming Donald Trump film titled “The Apprentice.”

Amy Baer, who’s Gidden Media company is producing the film, shared the news with TheWrap on Wednesday after it was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Sherman will also serve as executive producer on the project.

“Gabe is an extraordinary storyteller as well as an impeccable journalist. The timeliness of this subject, combined with Gabe’s professional pedigree and integrity, makes this a rare alignment of talent and subject,” Baer said in a statement.

The film will look to explore Donald Trump’s unlikely rise to power and eventually, the White House, by detailing his early influences, including lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn.

“As a journalist, I’ve reported on Donald Trump for more than fifteen years,” Sherman said in a statement. “I’ve long been fascinated by his origin story as a young builder coming up in the gritty world of 1970s and ’80s New York. This formative period tells us so much about the man who today occupies the Oval Office.”

Sherman is also adapting his bestselling 2014 biography on Ailes and Fox News, called “The Loudest Voice in the Room,” into a limited series for Showtime. Blumehouse and Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight”) will executive produce. The project is in development and is titled “Secure And Hold: The Last Days Of Roger Ailes.”

Sherman is repped by Ross Yoon Agency, M360 and Hotchkiss & Associates.
