Elijah Cummings appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday to discuss his recent meeting with President Trump and the Democrat from Maryland’s takeaway will probably surprise most people.
“With regard to our meeting yesterday, it was a good meeting. We went to talk about prescription drugs … and I thought he was very enthusiastic about our proposal to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, just as they do with Medicaid,” Cummings said. “He knew the facts … he was even supportive of a proposal that we did not bring to him and that was one that Bernie Sanders and I had been working on.”
Cummings, who has been an outspoken Trump opponent, is a prominent Congressional Black Caucus member and top Democrat on the House oversight panel. He had been trying to meet with Trump for weeks and they finally got together on Wednesday.
“He took our proposal … he basically said to Secretary Price, ‘get it done,’” Cummings told Joe Scarborough. “I don’t know how much more you can ask.
Cummings was then asked to explain to Democrats what he saw that made him speak so favorably of the president.
