Emma Stone Is Joaquin Phoenix’s Reluctant Muse in First Trailer for Woody Allen’s ‘Irrational Man’ (Video)

The Cannes-bound romantic dramedy also stars Parker Posey and Jamie Blackley

Joaquin Phoenix is a middle-aged professor in the midst of crisis who gets a new outlook on life after crossing paths with a comely student played by Emma Stone in Woody Allen‘s “Irrational Man.”

In the first trailer released for the romantic dramedy, Phoenix’s character Abe Lucas is indeed seen digging himself out of a depressive state after Stone’s character begins to take an interest in him, but is a better, lighter Abe really what she wants?

Meanwhile, Parker Posey is on board as a colleague of Abe’s and a much more age-appropriate potential love interest, though she can’t seem to rouse an interest from him.

Sony Pictures Classics acquired all North American rights to the film, which is set to have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month. The film was produced by Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson.

“Irrational Man” will be released in the U.S. on July 17.
