Ratings: ‘Empire’ Returns to Hand Fox Wednesday Win

Lead-in “Shots Fired” lands decent debut

“Empire” is back, and the Fox hip-hop soap struck down all its competition in the key TV Ratings demographic last night.

Pairing the record label drama with a decent premiere for “Shots Fired,” Fox finished first among adults 18-49. However, CBS and “Survivor” stole a total viewer victory across primetime averages.

Fox was first in ratings with a 1.9 rating/8 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 6.3 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Shots Fired” at 8 p.m. debuted to a 1.1/5 and 4.7 million viewers. “Empire” at 9 earned a 2.8/10 and 7.9 million viewers.

CBS was second in ratings with a 1.3/5 and first in viewers with 6.7 million. “Survivor” at 8 posted a 1.7/7 and 7.9 million viewers. At 9, “Criminal Minds” got a 1.3/5 and 7.4 million viewers. “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” at 10 had a 0.8/3 and 4.8 million viewers.

NBC was third in ratings with a 1.1/4 and in viewers with 5.2 million. “Blindspot” at 8 received a 0.9/4 and 4.3 million viewers. At 9, “Law & Order: SVU” landed a 1.1/4 and 5 million viewers. “Chicago PD” at 10 put up a 1.2/5 and 6.3 million viewers.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 1.0/4 and in viewers with 4.3 million. Following reruns, “Designated Survivor” at 10 brought in a 1.1/4 and 5.2 million viewers.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in viewers with 1.9 million.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and in viewers with 1.4 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 1.2 million. “Arrow” at 8 had a 0.5/2 and 1.4 million viewers. At 9, “The 100” got a 0.3/1 and 903,000 viewers.
