ESPYs: Kevin Durant Pouts Hard Over Brutal Peyton Manning Monologue Dunk (Video)

NBA star did not enjoy host’s jab about his recent team change

Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant might be happy with his move to the Bay Area team, but he definitely wasn’t happy with a brutal joke about it by host Peyton Manning at the 2017 ESPY Awards ceremony on Wednesday.

During his monologue at the Los Angeles event, Manning delivered a quip to the crowd about Durant that also referenced the U.S. women’s gymnastics team’s success at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

“Our gymnastic team was so dominant that Kevin Durant told me he that he wants to play for them next year,” the former NFL star joked, leading to a hushed response from the audience. “And I gotta tell you, I don’t think you’d start for that team, Kevin.”

The camera panned to Durant after Manning’s remark, and the hoops star looked stone-faced and unamused.

Manning then twisted the knife by adding, “Russell Westbrook, what do you think?”

Durant left behind Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2016 offseason to join the already talent-heavy Golden State Warriors, home to such stars as Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

The Warriors prevailed as NBA champs last month, with Durant crowned MVP of the Finals. The team’s recent success — two titles in three consecutive Finals appearances — has led to renewed questions about parity in the NBA.
