Allison Tolman, fresh off an Emmy nomination for her performance in the FX drama “Fargo,” is heading to “The Mindy Project” for a blind date with Adam Pally’s Dr. Peter Prentice. After this, she might want to book the first flight back to North Dakota!

Tolman will portray a character named Abby Berkman, who is a romance novelist, as first reported by TV Guide Magazine. She agrees to a blind date with Pally’s character, which turns into an absolute disaster.

Pally portrays a doctor who is basically a man-child on the show, so it’s kind of hard to imagine him on a blind date that turns out any other way. Representatives for Tolman and Fox did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

“The Mindy Project” will also welcome the new matriarch of ABC’s Thursday night lineup this fall with the acting debut of Shonda Rhimes. The Shondaland producer will portray herself, which means we’ll probably be treated to Mindy Kaling‘s rapid delivery as the fangirl geeks out about “Scandal” and/or “Grey’s Anatomy.”

These castings are indicative of a show looking to gain some attention with high profile guest stars. Mindy Kaling and her team have never had trouble finding guest stars for the show, now heading into its third season. It’s had a far more difficult time attracting viewers. Despite that, Fox has appreciated its viewership among more affluent viewers, as well as its critical acclaim.

Season 3 of “The Mindy Project” kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9:30/8:30c on Fox.
