The movie “Fight Club” captured the imagination of a generation, with a twist ending few saw coming and even fewer can forget. Now, Chuck Palahniuk, the author of the 1996 book the film was based on, is returning to the characters he created for a comic book sequel.

Published by Dark Horse Comics, which has been publishing official sequels to Joss Whedon‘s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” and “Firefly/Serenity” for years, “Fight Club 2” will be a 10-issue series illustrated by Cameron Stewart.

Palahniuk said in an interview with USA Today that the new story will take place a decade after the original, with Tyler Durden now married to Marla Singer and father to a 9-year-old son. But Palahniuk also intends to delve into the past, revealing Tyler’s true origins.

Palahniuk explained the sequel as a meditation on middle age. “You’re still not really happy but for different reasons,” he told USA Today. “Also, the idea that if you suppress that wild, creative part of you — that Tyler part of you — do you lose the best part of you? Sure, your life is more stable and safe, but is it a better life?”

Most of the characters from the original book will return, and readers will also find out that “Project Mayhem,” the “Fight Club” organization that was created in the original book, still exists. It’s just no longer a place for our middle-aged protagonist.

The movie version of “Fight Club,” starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter, came out in 1999. While the planned sequel only jumps ahead 10 years and it’s already been 15 since the film, that doesn’t mean we can’t imagine a world where all three sign on for a sequel.
