Former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg Rips Trump as ‘Dangerous Demagogue’ (Video)

One-time Republican goes off script at Democratic Convention to call Hillary Clinton the only “sane, competent” candidate for president

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg isn’t a member of the Democratic Party but appeared at the convention on Wednesday to denounce GOP nominee Donald Trump as a “dangerous demagogue” and endorse Hillary Clinton.

“I don’t believe that either party has a monopoly on good ideas or strong leadership,” he said. “I have supported elected officials from both sides of the aisle.”

The billionaire media mogul urged voters to elect Clinton in November, going off script to call her the only “sane, competent” candidate in the race.

Bloomberg, who was elected mayor of New York in 2001 as a Republican but left the party in 2006 and won his third term as an independent, had harsh words for both major parties. But while he admitted that he doesn’t always agree with Clinton, he she’s still the only viable candidate this year.

“Whatever our disagreements may be… we must put them aide for the good of our country,” Bloomberg said. “And united to defeat a dangerous demagogue. ”

Bloomberg considered a presidential run of his own but decided to support Clinton this time around instead.

“I built a business and I didn’t start it with a $1 million check from my father,” Bloomberg said. “We need a president who is a problem solver, not a bomb thrower.”

Bloomberg mentioned all of the anti-Trump talking points, such as his bankruptcy, use of foreign workers and lack of political experience.

“He wants to run the nation like he runs his business? God help us. I’m a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one,” Bloomberg said. “Trump’s business plan is a disaster in the making.”

Bloomberg urged independent voters to choose Clinton because she is better to “lead our country right now” and has foreign policy experience.

“Trump is a risky, reckless and radical choice and we can’t afford to make that choice,” Bloomberg said. “Hillary Clinton understands that this is not reality television, this is reality.”
