Scott will exec produce and David Karlak will direct the planned VR Experience for “Alien: Covenant,” in which viewers will navigate through alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death.

The Fox Innovation Lab at Twentieth Century Fox was established as a research and development center to drive the advancement of groundbreaking technology and new consumer experiences across all formats and distribution models. In 2015, the Fox Innovation Lab developed a first of its kind proof of concept project for the film “Wild.”

Following the success of “Wild – The Experience,” the Fox Innovation Lab released its first commercial VR endeavor, “The Martian VR Experience.” Executive produced by Scott and directed by Robert Stromberg, “The Martian VR Experience” is an interactive, immersive adventure in a 360-degree virtual reality environment.

The experience debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), was accepted into the prestigious New Frontier Program at the Sundance Film Festival and is the recipient of the Cannes Silver Lion in Digital Craft as well as the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) Next VR Award.

“The Martian VR Experience” is available now for PlayStation®VR (PS VR), Oculus Rift and HTC Vive™ on Steam®.

“Alien: Covenant” will land in theaters on May 19, 2017, with Scott returning to the universe he created, with  a new chapter in his groundbreaking “Alien” franchise. The new film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup and Danny McBride.

The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
