The app will program alerts for the first time to remind viewers of the show’s Nov. 17 premiere
Fox and Shazam are teaming up for an “Almost Human” promo during Game 6 of the World Series Wednesday that the network says is “by far” the largest ever effort of its kind.
Viewers who Shazam the promos as they run or tag the World Series Game 6 on the app will get access to an eight-minute extended scene from the “Almost Human” premiere — viewable right from the Shazam app.
In addition, Shazam will program an alert to those viewers that will appear in the app on Nov. 17, reminding them of the series debut that evening — a first.
Fox has nine Shazam-able promos created for “Almost Human,” and Shazam will be promoting the initiative all day Wednesday to its more than 100 million U.S. users.
The eight-minute “Almost Human” clip first published Monday on Hulu. Game 6 of the World Series begins tonight on Fox at 8:07 p.m. ET.
“Almost Human” is a futuristic cop thriller created by “Fringe” showrunner J.H. Wyman, who penned the pilot and executive produces. J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot company also executive produce the show, which stars Karl Urban and Michael Ealy.
Shazam is a mobile phone app, best known for identifying music through acoustic fingerprints — but the service also IDs TV shows. The network recently shared its SuperVote platform from the Fox Now app with Shazam, offering another option for “X Factor” fans to cast support for their favorites.
