HBO’s signature series is coming to IMAX theaters for one week only. Beginning Jan. 23, fans will have the chance to watch two Season 4 episodes of the popular fantasy series on the IMAX screen followed by an exclusive trailer for the fifth season.

The week-long event marks the first time a television network has featured its programming in IMAX theaters. The two episodes shown will be digitally re-mastered for the immersive IMAX format.

“The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format,” said HBO’s chief marketing officer Pamela Levine. “We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.”

Greg Foster, IMAX Entertainment CEO, believes there is no series more fitting for the IMAX treatment than “Game of Thrones.” “The scope and production quality of the show is quite remarkable, which will be highlighted even further in select IMAX locations — allowing fans, as never before, to become a part of author George R. R. Martin’s world that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss created for HBO. It has the action, storyline and epic nature that our fans seek in IMAX and we’re thrilled to team with HBO and our longtime partners at Warner Brothers to offer audiences a chance to experience it in the ultimate theatre setting joined by other fans of the series.”

Select IMAX theaters will screen the cinematic ninth episode of Season 4, which featured the defense of Castle Black from the wildlings, as well as the Season 4 finale and an exclusive IMAX trailer for Season 5. The one-week event begins Jan. 23.
