Gawker 2.0 Won’t Be Beltway, Access-Driven Political Site

“We’re going to make people laugh more than Politico, I would hope … Although Politico is a very funny publication,” editor-in-chief Alex Pareene says

The new politically-focused Gawker won’t be your average Beltway politics website, new editor-in-chief Alex Pareene says, promising to offer the same humor and snark for which Gawker grew famous.

“If they burn someone’s press secretary, it’s not going to be the end of the world,” Pareene joked about his staff to The Huffington Post.

He previewed a digital operation that will be the opposite of Politico, taking jabs at the all-things-politics site in the process.

“We’re going to have commentary as Gawker’s always had,” Pareene said. “And we’re going to make people laugh more than Politico, I would hope. Although Politico is a very funny publication.”

Readers can also expect the polar opposite of a Beltway-friendly, insider site aimed at political junkies.

“We don’t have to rely on access. We’re going to be putting people on the trail, but we’re not going to be a Beltway, access-driven political site,” Pareene said.
