Laura Spencer is packing her bags and heading back to Port Charles.

Actress Genie Francis is returning to “General Hospital” to reprise her Laura Spencer character, series executive producer Frank Valentini said Wednesday.

In announcing her return, Valentini noted that “the door has always been open” for Francis to come back.

“Genie is a part of our ‘GH’ family and the door has always been open for her to return when the timing and story are right,” Valentini noted. “Lucky for us, the stars have aligned and we are thrilled to welcome Genie back home.”

Valentini did not say when Francis is making her “General Hospital,” or how many episodes she’ll appear on.

Francis, who premiered on the series in 1977, most recently appeared on the ABC soap in 2013.

She also starred on the CBS soap “The Young and the Restless” from 2011 to 2012, playing Genevieve Atkinson.

Francis reunited with her “GH” costar Anthony Gear, aka Luke Spencer, to present the Best Drama award at the Daytime Emmys on Sunday.

Francis received a Daytime Emmy Award in 2007 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for the role of Laura Spencer.

For the record: An earlier version of this story stated that Francis premiered on “General Hospital” in 1997. TheWrap regrets the error.
