Casey Affleck Haunts Rooney Mara in ‘A Ghost Story’ Trailer (Video)

A24 will release the Sundance drama on July 7

A24 has released the trailer for “A Ghost Story,” which sees recent Academy Award winner Casey Affleck (“Manchester By the Sea”) return to his home from beyond the grave as a ghost. Rooney Mara plays his widow.

The film comes from David Lowery (“Pete’s Dragon”), who last directed the pair in “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. “A Ghost Story” first screened at the event in January.

In the trailer, Affleck’s white-sheeted ghost is unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the woman he loves slowly slip away. In his spectral state, he embarks on a journey through memory and history, exploring the meaning of human existence.

“A Ghost Story” opens in select theaters on July 7. A24 picked up the film ahead of its Sundance debut.

Adam Donaghey, Toby Halbrooks, James M. Johnston and Liz Franke produced the film — Lowery also wrote the script.

A24 is coming off a great 2016 run, having released Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight,” which recently won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
