Fox has renewed its DC comic book adaptation “Gotham” for Season 3, the network announced Wednesday.

The Batman prequel comes from executive producer Bruno Heller. Danny Cannon executive produced and directed the pilot; John Stephens also executive produces.

Benjamin McKenzie stars as Detective Jim Gordon. “Gotham” is based on the characters from DC Comics and produced by Warner Bros. Television.

“It takes a very special team to tell the tales of ‘Gotham.’ For the past two seasons, Bruno, Danny and John have masterfully honored the mythology of ‘Gotham’ and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama,” said Fox Entertainment President David Madden in a statement. “This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn’t be more proud of this show.”

“Gotham” is currently airing its second season and is set to introduce Paul Reubens as the Penguin’s (Robin Lord Taylor) father.

“Gotham” airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
