HLN to Launch ‘News & a Movie’ Series

Show featuring celebrity media panels and social media discussion on classic films premieres February 12th

HLN will premiere a new social media-driven film series, “News & a Movie,” on February 12th, the network announced Friday.

A celebrity panel will discuss the issues addressed by the show’s premiere film, “Glory,” starring Denzel Washington. The 1989 film tells the story of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts’ Volunteer Infantry — the first black fighting unit formed in the North during the Civil War.

The panel includes comedian Chuck Nice, YouTube star GloZell Green (fresh off her interview with President Obama), Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nick Chiles, Atlanta Magazine’s Rich Eldredge, and actor Cary Elwes, who played “Major Cabot Forbes” in the film.

Additional content surrounding the series will live on HLNTV.com, Facebook and Twitter. Users will find little-known stories from the making of the film, backstory on the Hollywood versions of the characters and conversation about “Glory’s” impact on today’s entertainment industry.

The HLN premiere of “Glory” coincides with Black History Month and the 25th anniversary of Denzel Washington’s Best Supporting Actor win at the 1990 Academy Awards.

The “News and a Movie” premiere is hosted by actress Holly Robinson Peete and CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin, with feature segments offered by “Daily Share” anchor Rocsi Diaz.

The next “News and a Movie” airs in March with the 1985 comedy “Real Genius.”
