Huckabee: Natalie Portman Shouldn’t Have Appeared at Oscars Pregnant & Unwed

This is wildly out of character for Huckabee who has made a name for himself as a reasonable conservative

Has Mike Huckabee lost his mind?

This is not an unreasonable question to ask once you consider the things that have been coming out of his mouth this week.

A few days ago he told a radio host that it's no wonder Obama keeps making bad decisions considering he was raised in Kenya.  Once it was pointed out that in fact Obama has spent some time in Indonesia as a child, Huckabee retracted saying he'd obviously misspoken but that the point remained: Obama did not attend boy scouts or little league as a child and therefore how could voters really expect him to make good decision for America.

Huckabee is currently the GOP frontrunner for the 2012 nomination despite not having announced his intentions to run — so unseriously does Fox boss Roger Ailes take his intentions that he did not suspend Huckabee along with Gingrich or Santorum earlier this week.

Nevertheless, taken together these comments suggest that Huckabee definitely has his eye on a certain section of conservative voters otherwise known as the Tea Pariers.   Or worse.  He is trolling for birther votes.

This is wildly out of character for Huckabee who has made a name for himself as a reasonable conservative, and this left-turn into nutter land is so worrisome to some that the crew at Morning Joe has been running a veritable Huckabee intervention on their show all week (what happened to our friend Mike Huckabee?!)

Anyway, should voters and viewers be left to conclude that Huckabe was simply having an off day or two he followed up yesterday by agreeing with radio host Michael Medved that Oscar winner Natalie Portman was "glamorizing" single motherhood by showing up at the Oscars "visibly pregnant" and unmarried.

You know Michael, one of the things that's troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, you know, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine.' But there aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie. And I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out of children wedlock.

You know, it takes a certain specific talent to cram so many idiot statements into 139 words that you'd need to write a book to respond properly.

So let's just point out that the GOP congress is currently in the process of stripping away funding for just about every government program that helps single women get out of the gutter Huckabee seems so concerned they are living in.  Yes, that seems like a good place to start.

After that maybe a discussion about how women are portrayed in the media, which would quickly probably lead down a rabbit hole of US Weekly 'hot pics' of single Hollywood mothers and their baby accessories.

In the meantime, one wonders if Huckabee, who has hinted he really is not so eager to give up his Fox paycheck, is looking for reasons to be pushed out of the race.
