Idris Elba Is ‘Reckless and Irresponsible’ in ‘Bastille Day’ Trailer (Video)

British actor plays a former CIA agent embarking on an antiterrorist mission in France with a pickpocket, played by Richard Madden

Idris Elba is flawless in “Luther” as the Detective Chief Inspector with a very dark side, and now the gritty British actor is playing an equally as badass former CIA agent in “Bastille Day.”

Co-starring Richard Madden (Robb Stark from “Game of Thrones”) as a pickpocketing artist in Paris, the action movie sees the unlikely pair team up on antiterrorist mission in France.

When Sean Briar (Elba) takes chase after Michael Mason (Madden) across a rooftop, he sets the tone of their relationship by telling him: “But you ran … innocent people don’t run.”

“You were coming after me — have you seen yourself?” replied the terrified petty thief who stole the wrong bag at the wrong time.

As is typical with Elba’s characters, he is “reckless and irresponsible” — and totally captivating.

The Focus Features film is directed by James Watkins and written by Andrew Baldwin. It also stars Charlotte Le Bon, Eriq Ebouaney and José Garcia.

“Bastille Day” blasts into theaters April 22.
