Last week SYFY channel ran the series from the early 80's - if you remember what made the show so good was the 100% cheesiness on every level. So the comments about the stellar product in the 80's are way off base.

As for changes to the plot lines - there are rumors that FOX NEWS might be picking up the series when ABC cancels it, this would be a natural for them and they could have Glen Beck starring in the Marc Singer role - now that I would pay to see!

I stopped watching any television in 2006. I never watched much before that, so it was no great sacrifice.

If anyone wants to "get a life!", shutting down the boob tube is a GREAT way do do just that!

Why do you people still pump television into your homes? With the internet, if I don't traffic NBC, they don't sell their ads to me and they don't make any money.

Idiot execs tried the same play with Jericho and what could've been a great series went down in flames. Now ABC thinks that March is the best time to reintro a series with only 4 episodes of a following after 4 months off?!? Build momentum and keep it. I would not be suprised at all if the network got scared the plot line offended the One and the media Libs. It is getting scary when schoolchildren are taught to sing praises of the great leader, huge companies like GE that own vast media outlets are in bed with the great ruler, and Hollywood is frightened to air anything the could offend the exuctive. Thank God fot the election yesterday. Maybe this country is waking up to the fact that Obama is a dangerous man that shares none of the values of our founding fathers or traditional, unique customs and economic beliefs.

Does anybody involved in TV realize that you will lose half the people who would like to watch your show when you air four episodes and then it gets lost for half a year? Do you not realize that we all just assume you killed another good show, and we'll not even be aware that it's back until April? At which point it's not worth the effort to try to catch up.

Reinventing the wheel has traditionally been considered stupid, just so you know.

The 'showrunner' change (a word I just learned) is obviously at the command of the White House to repair the damage to the image of The Zero. Where's the mystery?

I used to watch every episode of the old NBC V as a kid. I remember the story quite well. In the 80's show they did have V youth, they did have miraculous healing and there was a supplanting of faith with the V. In fact there was a Jewish couple who survived the holocaust and warned their family about how eerily the current events mimicked that time. Maybe they did tweak the script with the universal healthcare phrase (I thought it funny that in this sense it could have also been a double entendre for alien and human healthcare), but who knows if they did or not. All I recall is that they followed most of the original plot and set-up. The mini-series had more time to establish everything however, and in this ratings dash, I am sure that's why it felt rushed. V for victory.

Ridiculous you start a decent show they sop it until March and for what? to build hype! No can someone please inform TV executives its time to leave the 1950's that stuff doesn't work. One if they shows are in the can and people want then they will leak and they the execs will get mad; r two people will forget about it and they will have destroyed a good show. Learn is a free lesson guys on how modern media works, you get people's interest, hold it as long as possible, then either A. threaten to take it away and let fanboys build the hype and fervor for more or B. end it DVD box set it and Spin off the concept/story/ or popular character with more to tell.

simple solution to this abc sucking up to the messiah by offloading the producer.... do what it takes to make the ratings huge while the old story line kicks the messiah in the nuts. then, when it gets all suckup to barry, drop the ratings like a rock. it's already destined to become yet another pump the messiah show, so no need trying to limp it along out of nostalgia. remember the wakeup call hollywood got from mel gibson's passion. abc can be made to see the light if only the dollars speak.

My jaw was on the floor almost the whole premier with all the Obama parallels. I was a kid when the original V miniseries aired, and many of the same parallels were drawn there. The only differences I recall so far are that the original had a character who was a concentration camp survivor from Hitler's Germany. The alien methods matched Hitler's, and their logo was oh so similar to a swastika. But who knows? Maybe we'll see that in an upcoming episode also. Roll on, Obama theater!

I'm loving the parallels to Obamamania in this show, but was that the reason they really tossed the writer and producer? I loved the original V as a kid, and found this one to be a product of shoddy direction, very poor dialog and horribly stupid action scenes, lets not forget how many holes were left in the plot, such as a guy showing up at the church with a letter and dying in the pews. What does the priest do with him? Why such a rapid rush to showing how everybody is loving the Vs? There was so much mashed together quickly that it lacked any drama or character development. Dont get me started on the horrible dialog between mother and son! Now that they have a hit, they may actually have to up the quality bar a notch to keep the momentum.

Come on People ABC must show some "RESPECT" to our Fearless leader!
On a side note. That one blond guy that plays the FBI agent that turns out to be an alien. He played the Pirate guy in that Dodgeball movie. Everytime he spoke I had to add, "Ngargh!". Im an alien Ngargh! I want to eat you, ngargh!

If a producer were replaced in 2006 because the network thought there were anti-Bush references in their show, do you think the Hollywood entertainment press might have cared?

If they take the edge off the show it is dead, that was one reason the original did so well, the allusion to totalitarianism and how someone can promise BS and use it to sway people.

If that is taken out of this because people are worried that the government may be offended, it doesn't bode well for the series' future success, and it sure doesn't say a lot of good things about freedom of speech in our country.

The creepy parallel to the Obama admin was what made the premier great.

Yes, the Obama allusions were dramatically toned down. However, the first episode was a jumble of things that took the old version much longer to reveal. I wonder if they have lots of masterful new plot devices for us to enjoy? Likely not. I suspect that this was originally intended to be a 2-hour pilot/premiere, but that so much was cut that getting it down to an hour required drastic surgery.

With at least half the season already in the can, changes at the top will take some time to filter into the show. Watch it this season and if/when it veers off the track tell ABC and the advertisers you don't like the change.

Has anyone heard as to whether this has happened in order to "tone down" the comparisions between the aliens and the present administration? I noticed the previews showed many references to the aliens bringing "hope", yet when the showed aired, it appeared those references were taken out almost entirely. If they want to buck the system and be 'daring', they should leave the current story arc in place and not try to steer it away from pointing fingers at "obamamania".
