‘Straight Outta Compton’ Star Corey Hawkins Lands Male Lead in ’24’ Spinoff

Juilliard-trained actor who played Dr. Dre on the big screen is Jack Bauer’s replacement

“Straight Outta Compton” star Corey Hawkins has landed the Jack Bauer-esque male lead slot on Fox’s “24: Legacy” pilot.

Eric Carter, described by Fox as “strong and smart,” has a very rough background, but has turned his life around in the Army Rangers. Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, Carter is pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.

The upcoming revitalization will see Carter ask CTU for help in saving his life, the network notes, and in stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in “Straight Outta Compton” has also recently been on AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” The actor will next be seen in Legendary’s “Kong: Skull Island,” opposite Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson.

A graduate of Juilliard, Hawkins is repped by ICM Partners and Jackoway Tyerman.

Hawkins will be joined by a female lead to be named later.

The latest reboot of the “24” franchise — this one sans protagonist Bauer, as well as probably most of the other original characters — hails from 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television, in association with Teakwood Lane Productions. The one-hour drama will be executive produced by Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, Evan Katz, Brian Grazer.
