Jennifer Lawrence Defended by Witness to Golden Globes Phone Flap

Reporter inside press room says “Joy” star “did NOT bully that reporter”

A witness has come forward to defend Jennifer Lawrence‘s title as America’s Sweetheart — saying the actress was not rude to a reporter at the Golden Globes on Sunday.

“Jennifer Lawrence … did NOT bully that reporter. He was not reading questions off of his phone,” journalist Chris Trondsen said on Twitter.

Lawrence was speaking to press at the Beverly Hilton hotel after winning Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for “Joy,” when an interviewer began asking her questions with his phone held up in front of his face. Lawrence advised him that he “can’t do that. You’ve got to live in the now.”

Given the praise Lawrence gets any time she converts oxygen into carbon dioxide, some found her words for the reporter to be unkind — saying his accent was foreign and English not his first language, and that perhaps he was using his phone to translate questions.

No, says Tronsden.

“The reporter was asking a question but either filming or taking pictures off of his phone while talking to Jennifer Lawrence,” Trondsen wrote. “Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t rude at all. She just wanted him to be present.”

Not everyone agreed.

“Sooo guttered with how Jennifer Lawrence went on with the foreign reporter at the Golden Globes, proper put me off her,” one user tweeted.

“Everyone in the press room was laughing,” Trondsen concluded. “It was lighthearted.”
