The CW is developing a new sci-fi drama series with Jim Parsons producing, TheWrap has learned.

“The Terranauts” will be written by Zach Helm and is based on the novel of the same name by T. C. Boyle.

The project is from Warner Bros TV and Parsons and Todd Spiewak’s That’s Wonderful Productions.

“The Terranauts” tracks a grand experiment involving the future of humanity, as eight scientists are enlisted to run a biosphere that will prove vital for survival in an off-Earth colony. Their goal is to successfully create a sustainable environment to house generations to come, but things don’t quite go as planned. The drama is described as an epic story of science, society, sex, survival and, ultimately, human folly and ambition.

Also in development at The CW are a reboot of classic soap “Dynasty” titled “Casa,” which is a family drama revolving around immigration from Greg Berlanti.

In addition, “Mata Hari” is based on the life of Margaretha Geertruida “Margreet” MacLeod, the Dutch exotic dancer who was convicted of being a spy in World War I, plus Tim Kring‘s “Stick Man,” a crime drama described as being in the vein of “Making a Murderer.”

Parsons, best known for his role as Sheldon on CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” started That’s Wonderful Productions with Spiewak in 2013.
