When any two “Daily Show” alums get together, hilarity always ensues.
Such was the case Wednesday, when Stephen Colbert welcomed John Oliver to “The Late Show.” Together, the guys ruthlessly shredded the intelligence of not just the President, but his entire family.
And they really got a kick out of the whole thing, even if we are “turbo-f—ed” as a nation, as Oliver perfectly put it.
What a time for “Last Week Tonight” to be on hiatus, by the way, during this “rollercoaster time in American history,” as the pay-TV host said.
“I imagine you took these two weeks off because this is the part of the year — the summer — where you go, like, ‘Nothing is going to happen,’” Colbert posed. “It’s safe.”
“You’d have to have an offspring who is sooo stupid,” Oliver replied, referring to Donald Trump Jr.’s now-infamous (and public) campaign-based conversations with Russians. “And what’s chance of that?”
“Do you think they understand?” Oliver asked of the entire Trump Thanksgiving table’s ability to grasp what’s going on. “Is it possible there’s not a logical sequence of thoughts in their mind that have made them understand the gravity of the situation they’re in?”
“Are they just too dumb to realize what’s happening?” he continued, to the delight of Colbert. “The answer is not definitely ‘No.’”
