Rob Lowe and John Stamos are both handsome, middle-aged men starring in new fall shows on Fox. For one brief moment at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Thursday, their worlds collided.

Lowe, joined onstage by the co-stars and fellow producers for upcoming series “The Grinder,” fielded a meandering question late in the panel about his relationship with Stamos–whether they know each other, whether they have gone up for the same parts in the past, whether they talk to each other about how handsome they are. Lowe played along gamely.

“As a founding member of Jimmy Kimmel’s Handsome Men’s Club, Stamos has been up for membership,” Lowe said. “So far the board hasn’t voted him in. Sting is really lobbying hard for him. David Beckham has blackballed him every time he’s gotten close.”

As Lowe continued, Stamos–whose panel for Fox comedy “Gradfathered” was set to follow the one for “The Grinder”–shouted from the back of the room, “Rob tell the truth! We’ve dated for years!” drawing laughs from the press.

Lowe went on to bemoan “what journalism has become.”
