Joss Whedon Fan Site Shuts Down After Ex-Wife’s Explosive Essay

Whedonesque site says 15 years “is a long time and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge… but now it’s time to say goodbye”

The Joss Whedon fan site Whedonesque is shutting down, it announced on Monday morning.

The closure comes after Whedon’s ex-wife, Kai Cole, wrote a explosive guest blog on TheWrap, calling the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator a “hypocrite preaching feminist ideals.”

“So farewell then, 15 years is a long time and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. But now it’s time to say goodbye. No more threads after this one, we’re closing down,” the message on the fan site reads. “The site will at some stage become a read only site.”

One comment on the thread asked, “This is about THAT piece?” as others discussed the recent column posted by TheWrap on Sunday, in which Cole speaks about her relationship with the filmmaker since 1991, including his various affairs.

“So sad – the site closing, and of course the news of Joss and Kai’s relationship,” wrote one user. “I do believe that both Joss and Kai should be allowed to be human without being demonized.”

It is not clear whether the fan site is shutting down in response to the column. TheWrap reached out to Whedonesque for comment.

In her guest column for TheWrap, Cole opened by saying: “I’ve been asked some questions by the press recently about my divorce from Joss Whedon, to whom I was married for 16 years. There is misinformation out there and I feel the best way to clear up the situation is to tell my truth.”
