Kanye West won’t grace the “Saturday Night Live” stage for hours, but the rapper and notorious hot head is hosting a pre-show of sorts — ranting via social media about reactions to his latest creative efforts.
West unveiled the third season of his Yeezy collection, an apparel and footwear collaboration with Adidas, at Madison Square Garden on Thursday — a presentation made in step with New York Fashion Week that drew much attention thanks to its refugee theme and heavy Kardashian turnout.
Addressing criticism from Media Takeout, an urban celebrity blog known for its brutal honestly and sensationalist headlines, West fired off a series of tweets early Saturday about how hard he’s worked and, naturally, how important his collection was.
“I’m a human being… I’m an artist bro,” West wrote. “I’ve given everything I had for this moment… a lot of people feel it’s the paradigm shift.”
He’s referring to his consistently minimal designs, which didn’t bowl over the likes of New York mag fashion critic Cathy Horn who said “the show’s problems … reflect the general state of the fashion world in particular, the sense that an experience often begins with delight and almost always ends with a feeling of nothingness.”
Media Takeout also posted a photo of West with Caitlyn Jenner, his wife Kim Kardashian‘s former stepfather and trans star. The site suggested the spectacle of West’s famous in-laws embarrassed friends and supporters like Jay-Z and 50 Cent.
“I’m proud of this picture with me and Caitlyn,” West said in another tweet. “She gave the most heart felt speech at my wedding.”
West is also finishing a new album, “The Life of Pablo,” which has seen several creative delays in recent weeks (and several titles, for that matter).
“No more rules … make your own rules …. ok now back to finishing Pablo,” he concluded.
West will light up 30 Rockefeller Center Saturday night with host Melissa McCarthy. Read a smattering of his tweets:
