Kathy Najimy to Play Evil Queen in Disney Channel’s ‘Descendants’

Maz Jobrani, Wendy Raquel Robinson and Melanie Paxson also join the upcoming live action movie

Disney Channel has rounded out the casting of the parents in the live-action television movie “Descendants,” which will focus on the offspring of Disney’s greatest villains as they begin to question the family business of evil.

“Hocus Pocus” star Kathy Najimy has been cast as the Evil Queen, mother to Evie played by newcomer Sofia Carson.

The kids’ cable network also announced it had cast the other parents in the film: “The Interpreter” actor Maz Jobrani will play Jafar, father to Jay played by “Twilight’s” Booboo Stewart; “The Game’s” Wendy Raquel Robinson is Cruella de Vil, mother to Carlos played by “Jessie” star Cameron Boyce; “Saving Mr. Banks” actress Melanie Paxson joins the cast as the Fairy Godmother, mother to Jane played by newcomer Brenna D’Amico.

Previously, “Wicked” star Kristin Chenoweth had been cast in the role of “Sleeping Beauty” villain Maleficent in “Descendants.” Chenoweth’s onscreen daughter will be Mal, who will be played by “Liv and Maddie” star Dove Cameron.

The live-action film, which is being directed by “High School Musical” vet Kenny Ortega, will begin production in late spring for a premiere next year.
