Kesha Thanks Lady Gaga, Joe Biden for ‘Bringing Attention to Sexual Assault’ at Oscars

Lady Gaga performed her Academy Award-nominated song about sexual assault “Til It Happens to You” at the Oscars Sunday

Lady Gaga‘s performance of her song “Til It Happens to You” at the Oscars on Sunday night touched many people, especially Kesha, who is currently in a legal battle against Dr. Luke on sexual assault claims.

“thank u @ladygaga and VP @JoeBiden for bringing attention to sexual assault at the oscars,”Kesha tweeted. “It hit very close to my heart for obvious reasons.”

Vice President Joe Biden introduced Gaga’s performance of the Oscar-nominated song, co-written by Gaga and Diane Warren. The tune is featured in the documentary “The Hunting Ground,” which explores the issue of sexual assault on college campuses.

Gaga, who was also sexually assaulted at the age of 19, brought other rape survivors onto the stage during her performance. They had messages like “unbreakable” and “it happened to me” written on their arms.

Kesha is suing her producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald, claiming that he sexually and emotionally abused her. The producer, who has not been criminally charged, has denied the allegations and filed a countersuit against the singer.

She also added Sony to the lawsuit, contending that the company “had knowledge of Dr. Luke treating female entertainers under his tutelage and supervision in the same manner as alleged here regarding Ms. Sebert, which includes both physical and emotional abuse.”

Lady Gaga has been supporting Kesha throughout her legal battle, tweeting pictures of the two holdings hands as well as asking her fans to #StopVicimShaming Kesha.
