Kevin Williamson Project, ‘Mob Doctor’ Get Fox Series Orders; ‘Alcatraz’ and ‘Finder’ Canceled

Kevin Bacon will star in Kevin Williamson-written story about an ex-FBI agent who searches for a diabolical serial killer; J.J. Abrams project 'Alcatraz' and 'Bones' spinoff 'The Finder' pulled

After picking up a trio of comedy pilots to series on Wednesday, Fox started filling its drama schedule by ordering a serial killer show starring Kevin Bacon and a mob medical project to series. But it cancelled J.J. Abrams' surreal drama "Alcatraz" and the "Bones" spinoff "The Finder" after their first seasons.

The tentatively titled "The Following," from writer-producer Kevin Williamson, stars Bacon and James Purefoy and centers on an ex-FBI agent who leads the search for a diabolical serial killer who has created a cult of serial killers.

The project comes from Warner Bros. Television and Outerbanks Entertainment. Marcos Siega, who directed the pilot, will also executive produce.

Fox has also given a series order to "Mob Doctor." The Sony project stars Jordana Spiro and William Forsythe and follows a young female thoracic surgeon who's split between two worlds as she juggles her career and her lifelong debt to the South Chicago mob.

The pilot is written by Josh Berman and Robert Wright and directed by Michael Dinner, all of whom are producing.

Meanwhile, "Alcatraz" and "The Finder," which debuted in January as mid-season replacements, will not go forward with second seasons.
