Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger has closed a deal to play Christian Grey’s former lover, Elena Lincoln, in “Fifty Shades Darker,” TheWrap has learned.

James Foley is set to direct the film for Universal Pictures and Focus Features, which plan to shoot “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed” back-to-back.

Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing with Marcus Viscidi and author E.L. James, whose husband, Niall Leonard, adapted both books.

The sequel finds Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan reprising their respective roles of Anastasia Steele and Grey. They’ll be joined by returning co-stars Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini.

Basinger next stars opposite her “L.A. Confidential” co-star Russell Crowe in Shane Black‘s Warner Bros. movie “The Nice Guys.” She’s represented by APA, manager Oren Segal and Bloom Hergott.

Basinger’s casting was first reported by Variety and quickly confirmed on Twitter by E.L. James herself.
