Kirk Cameron and social media appear to be a marriage made in hell.

The former “Growing Pains” star was torn to shreds Saturday on Twitter over an interview in which he declared that wives should “follow their husband’s lead.”

“Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband’s lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband,” Cameron told the Christian Post. “When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage.”

Twitter users took that as their lead to rip into Cameron.

Kirk Cameron preaching bad Christianity reminds me of that episode of Family Guy where Peter establishes the church of the Fonz,” offered one detractor.

Another wondered, “Why hasn’t someone punched this punk in the nuts yet?”

“‘It’s like Kirk Cameron always says…’ – How to reclaim your personal space at parties,” joked another critic.

“Now that Kirk Cameron has told us how wives should behave, I can’t wait to hear how the cast of Eight is Enough feels about child rearing,” went another response.
