Lee Daniels will try his hand at the demonic possession thriller genre with “Demon House,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The Relativity thriller is based on the real life experiences of Latoya Ammons and her family, who claim to have been the victims of demonic possession and other supernatural occurrences in their Gary, Ind., home.

Relativity will finance, produce and distribute the film. Turn Left Productions partners Jackson Nguyen and Todd Crites are producing. Bruce Cohen is also a producer and Richard Potter is overseeing the film on behalf of the studio.

Daniels, who last directed “The Butler,” is represented by CAA. He is an executive producer on Fox’s upcoming hip-hop drama “Empire.” His upcoming features include “Iced” and “The Brian Banks Story.”
