Legendary Picks Its First Digital Project: A Movie Based on ‘Dead Rising’

‘Transformers’ producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is also involved

Legendary Entertainment will finance and produce a movie based on the video game “Dead Rising,” the first project to be made by the company’s growing digital division. Crackle scored exclusive distribution rights to the film, while Content Media will sell the international rights.

“Transformers” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura will executive produce “Dead Rising,” having already executive produced a web series called “Higher Power.”

Tim Carter will write the movie and produce alongside Tomas Harlan. Their company, Contradiction Films, produced “Mortal Kombat: Legacy,” another video game adaptation.

“Dead Rising” is set during a zombie outbreak, as four characters must outrun the disease’s spread and search for its origins. Capcom has sold more than 6.5 million copies of the game.

“We are excited to be working with Legendary and Lorenzo, who have both created immersive properties for fans around the world,” Carter and Harlan said in a statement. “As avid players of the game, we’re extremely thrilled to take the popular franchise that millions have embraced and give them the opportunity to experience it on a new platform.”

Legendary Digital Media’s Tom Lesinski made the announcement.
