The mayor of Lucille Ball’s upstate New York hometown has some ‘splainin to do, because people do not love their rendition of Lucy.
Residents of Celeron, New York, said they want to replace a scary-looking bronze statue of the legendary actress that officials have been working to fix since it was erected in 2009, according to Buffalo News.
One town resident who refused to disclose his name even created a Facebook page called “We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue” that picked up steam this week.
The page has already been liked by more than 5,000 people who apparently hate the Lucy statue.
“Lucille Ball was one of the most talented, beautiful, funny women whoever appeared on television,” the page founder said in a statement. “My only goal is to have a sculpture of her in Jamestown which does her justice.”
Ball fans also took to Twitter to voice their displeasure, calling it “terrifying” and “ghoulish.”
Replacing the head would cost between $8,000 and $10,000, according to Mayor Scott Schrecengost, and Lucy fans said they hope the artist, Dave Poulin, will fix it on his own dime.
