Marco Rubio took on the New York Times Monday for a piece it ran titled “Marco Rubio Is Hardly a Hero in Cuba. He Likes That.”

The story details Rubio’s unpopularity in Cuba, the country his parents were born. It seems the headline was changed at some point, originally dubbed a, the country his parents were born in. Originally published as ‘Little Affinity for Marco Rubio in Cuba, Despite Family Roots.”

“NYT follows up traffic tix & “luxury speedboat” stories with expose of Castro regime’s propaganda on me. #nicetry” Rubio tweeted.

“For the record, I’m proud that the Castro regime feels threatened by us,” Rubio continued. “They fear freedom and democracy.”

The Rubio piece follows other Times’ pieces that focused on several speeding tickets he’s gotten as well as an “extravagant purchase” of an $80,000 speedboat.

Conservatives attacked the Times for a perceived bias against Republican candidates like Rubio.

The New York Times did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment regarding Rubio’s comments.
