Watch Margot Robbie, Domhnall Gleeson in First ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’ Trailer (Video)

Film tells behind-the-scenes story of how the Winnie the Pooh stories came to life

Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for “Goodbye Christopher Robin,” which chronicles A. A. Milne’s creation of the Winnie the Pooh stories.

“Once upon a time there was a great war that brought so much sadness to so many people,” says the voiceover in the trailer. “Hardly anyone could remember what happiness was like. But something happened that changed all that. It helped us believe in the good things. The fun things. And a world of imagination. And then, just like a tap you turned on, happiness came pouring out.”

The trailer opens with the aforementioned war then shifts in tone when A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) welcome a child, Christopher Robin. His toys soon inspire his father to write a book, which will become known as the Winnie the Pooh stories.

“Are you writing a book? I thought we were just having fun,” Christopher Robin asks his father.

“We are writing a book and having fun,” A. A. responds.

Christopher Robin also became a character in his father’s Winnie the Pooh stories.

Simon Curtis directs the film written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Simon Vaughan. The film also stars Kelly MacDonald, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Stephen Campbell Moore.

“Goodbye Christopher Robin” is set for an October 13 release.
