The chief executive of the tech giant regrets showing up two hours late
Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer is sorry she overslept.
Mayer came under fire last week after she failed to hit the snooze button and nearly missed a dinner meeting put together by major ad firm Interpublic Group during the Cannes Lions festival in France. One executive reportedly left before she finally arrived.
“I think the dinner is unfortunate how much attention it's gotten,” Mayer told Bloomberg. “I was late. I apologized to IPG at the time and in no way meant for it to be a slight to them.”
The Wall Street Journal reported that one top ad exec in attendance was furious.
“It is another instance where she demonstrated that she doesn't understand the value of clients, ad revenue or agencies,” the anonymous individual said.
A Yahoo! rep released a statement to the press emphasizing their relationship with the ad company: “We value our partnership with IPG and all of our advertisers.”
Business Insider's Nicholas Carlson said Mayer's lateness has become a pattern, saying she also was tardy to meetings with various other CEOs.
