Mark Shapiro Named Chief Content Officer of IMG

The former Dick Clark Productions CEO also spent years at ESPN and Six Flags

Mark Shapiro is joining IMG as chief content officer, the company announced on Thursday.

Most recently an executive producer at Dick Clark Productions, he served as that company’s CEO before its purchase by Guggenheim in 2012. Prior to his stint at DCP, he was president and CEO of Six Flags, the theme park company he joined in 2005.

“Mark brings extensive experience in consumer entertainment, brand building, marketing, television programming and digital media to IMG,” Ariel Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell, co-CEOs of WME | IMG, said in a statement. “Mark’s expertise will help us evolve our content, digital and production strategies across IMG’s Events & Media, Fashion and Models businesses globally and create new revenue streams.”

Shapiro also spent 12 years at ESPN, where he was responsible for programming, among many other things. During his time at the network, Shapiro garnered 16 Emmy Awards and two Peabody Awards.

“I’m excited to join IMG at such a unique moment,” he said. “No other company has access to such a diverse, innovative portfolio of content creators and distributors, and I look forward to helping create and champion our partners’ stories and ideas.”
