Matt Damon Is a Fraction of His Normal Size in ‘Downsizing’ First Full Trailer (Video)

Director Alexander Payne shrinks the Oscar winner to combat global over-population

“‘Downsizing” has already gotten rave reviews from the Venice Film Festival, and the first full trailer released on Monday will only increase the excitement for movie-goers to see Matt Damon cut down to size.

In the trailer, scientists reveal that the only practical solution to the world’s over-population crisis is for people to be shrunk to a fraction of their normal size.

“Wow, that is wild,” Damon marvels while watching the announcement from a bar.

He soon learns, however, that downsizing isn’t just about saving the planet: “It’s about saving ourselves … we get the best cars, best houses, best restaurants,” he is told by his best (little) friend, as he boasts there is even “three Cheesecake Factories,” who can argue with that?

Directed by Alexander Payne (“Sideways”), “Downsizing” also stars Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig.

“Sometimes you think you’re in the normal world, then something happens — and you realize we’re not,” Damon says, as the miniature group discover a giant bottle of Absolut vodka.

Payne wrote the screenplay for the Paramount comedy drama with Jim Taylor and is producing through his Ad Hominem production company along with Gran Via Productions’ Mark Johnson. Taylor and Jim Burke executive produced.

“Downsizing” hits theaters on Dec. 22.
