'Sharknado' Sequel Is Not Greenlit, Says Syfy

The network does plan to air an encore of the TV movie after Thursday's social media feeding frenzy

Hold your seahorses, people. Syfy has not greenlit a sequel to "Sharknado," a network representative told TheWrap.

Reported discussions for a sequel go unconfirmed, though no one can blame Syfy for wanting to take the social media feeding frenzy and run with a followup.

According to the network, there were nearly 5,000 tweets a minute about the TV movie. Trending all evening, it amassed 387,000 mentions across social media platforms. Those numbers make "Sharknado" SyFy network's most social telecast ever. It was also the most social program on all of television Thursday.

On the heels of that success, Syfy announced that it will air an encore broadcast Thursday, July 18 at 7/6c.
