Yahoo has picked Tom Hanks' long-in-development animated web series "Electric City" as its first original scripted series, the company announced on Monday.

The toon, across 20 episodes that will be three-to-four minutes long, will debut in the spring.

Yahoo has recently launched several online reality series, including a relationship advice show with "Reno 911!" and Style network alum Niecy Nash, and "omg! NOW," a daily celebrity gossip series.

The multi-dimensional series will feature interactive elements, including a 3-D map viewers can navigate through and games, a character voiced by Hanks and will be available in multiple languages, including French and Spanish.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, it revolves around the titular city, a "symbol of peace and security" that's actually full of secrets and violence. It will touch on "relevant global issues and themes including energy consumption, freedom of information, crime and punishment and more," according to Yahoo's statement.

Yahoo, along with Hanks and production partners Playtone and Reliance Entertainment, will formally announce the project's premiere Tuesday at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
