Glenn Beck was at “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” on Broadway with his wife last Saturday when his security detail tapped him on the shoulder to tell him about the shootings in Tucson, Arizona. (Beck’s first reaction? “Protect the kids,” he said on his Fox News show Monday.)
While recounting where he was following the tragedy, he promised viewers he would review the show soon.
On his radio show Wednesday, Beck gave that promised review -- eschewing the Broadway protocol of waiting until shows are out of “previews” to do so. (Beck’s not alone in this case, as the New York Observer, Daily News and Bloomberg have all published reviews of the troubled, Bono-backed, stunt-heavy, accident-and-injury-plagued $65 million production before the show's official "opening.")
And unlike most critics, Beck liked it. Like, really liked it.
“I’ve been going to Broadway shows for 30 years," he said. "This is the best show I’ve ever seen. Bar none. Heads and shoulders above anything else.”
He added: “It starts like Cirque Du Soleil, like you see at Disney, and it just goes up from there ... Give a kidney to go see 'Spider-Man.'"
