Harvey Pekar, the cult comic book writer, has died. He was 70.

Pekar was found at his home in Cleveland early Monday, according to the Associated Press.

He had been suffering from prostate cancer, asthma, high blood pressure and depression, Cleveland Heights police Capt. Michael Cannon told the AP.

Pekar’s “American Splendor” comics – which he started in 1976 -- were made into a 2003 film starring Paul Giamatti as Pekar.
