Facebook-owned Instagram says it wants people to view its photos on its site, not in tweets
An ongoing feud between Twitter and Instagram reached a new level Wednesday morning when the photo-sharing app disabled a feature that allows photos to load properly on the micro-blogging site.
Twitter said in a blog post that the Facebook-owned Instagram turned off its Twitter integration, making photos appear off-center or cropped on the 140-character social-media site.
The move comes after Instagram, once only available as a mobile application, launched a website that allows users to view photos on the web. It also comes on the heels of Facebook's $1 billion purchase of Instagram.
While Chief Executive Kevin Systrom said at Wednesday's LeWeb conference in Paris that Instagram wants users to interact with images on its own site, not those of competitors, the move also could divert some Twitter traffic to Facebook, where Instagram's images will not be affected.
"Really it's about where do you go to consume that image, to interact with that image. We want that to be on Instagram," Systrom said, according to CNET. "What we realized over time is we really needed to have an awesome Web presence."
Twitter also recently said it would introduce photo filters similar to those on Instagram.
